Muffin Tin Advent Calendar How To

YAY!!! I am SO excited about Christmas this year! As Liam gets older and is understanding things more and more it is so fun to start holiday traditions with him. I was really wanting to make an Advent Calendar to start counting down the days to Christmas, but I kind of waited until the last minute, so I was searching online for something that I could make relatively quickly to have ready by the 1st of December. I came across this, and knew it would be perfect!

It was SUPER EASY, and only took a couple hours start to finish : ). Can't beat that! I will give you a little supply list incase you want to whip one up.

1. Mini muffin tin (24 holes)

2. Adhesive magnet sheets (I got mine at Wal-mart in the craft section. They come in 5x8 sheets in a pack of 2. You will need 2 packs to make this project)

3. Card Stock

4. Christmas Scrapbook Paper

5. Glue or Mod Podge

6. Embellishments (stickers, gems, glitter, etc.)

HOW TO:

1. Adhere you magnet sheets to the card stock then cut out 24 2.5inch squares (or smaller depending on the size of your tin)

2. Cut out 24 2in. squares from your Christmas scrapbook paper and glue to the magnet squares. (I used Mod Podge so that they would be sealed, but you can do what ever you like.)

3. Arrange in the pattern you would like and add your numbers. (I used my Cricut to cut out numbers, but you could also use stickers or a sharpie to write on the numbers as well.)

4. Add cute embellishments :)

5. Fill with treats or slips of paper with fun ideas for you and your family to do together.

6. Admire you cute little Calendar!

My poor front door has been empty since Christmas! Sad, I know. I was looking through my craft file yesterday and ran across this, and I had the perfect fabric on hand to make one just in time for the 4th of July! She uses a metal wreath, but I just used a metal hanger bent into a circle. I think it worked out just fine :-) This is a super easy project, and if you have older kids, they would even be able to help out! Pop some popcorn, put in a movie and start tearing and tying. In the end, you will have a cute, shabby wreath for your front door :-)

Father's Day Gifts

This is what I made my hubby for Father's Day (after I gave him a weed eater, which I quickly learned was the equivalent of him giving me cleaning supplies for Mother's Day. Not a good call on my part) . He is a musician, and works with a film company called Whitestone Motion Pictures . So, this pillow of Alfred Hitchcock was perfect for his office :-)

Prayer Request Update

Thank you to everyone who took time to pray for the McEntee family today. I ask that you continue to pray now more than ever. Irena McEntee and her friend Carissa Ireland were found this morning unresponsive, and later pronounced dead at the hospital. I can not imagine what her parents are going through, and I just ask prayers of strength as they face the days ahead. The death of their daughter comes on the heals of the death of their son less than a year ago. Life is so fragile, please say a prayer for them during this time.

Please take a moment today and pray for the McEntee Family who are members of our church. Their 18 year old daughter and her friend went missing yesterday while on a kayaking trip. The Coast Guard is searching, but nothing has turned up so far. Please pray, pray hard, pray for a miracle!

Seriously Cute 10 Minute Headband

Ok, so getting ready yesterday and I needed something to jazz up my outfit. So, into my craft room I went to see what I could come up with. 10 minutes later and... wah-la! Seriously, SO SO easy!! Brief little run through of how to make your own.

You will need: ribbon, felt, hot glue, sewing machine (or needle and thread), and a headband.

First, cut your ribbon to about 24 inches long (longer if you want a fuller flower). Using your sewing machine make a running stitch down the edge of one side. Next gently pull on the thread to gather your ribbon into a ruffle.

Cut a 3 inch circle out of felt to use as your base. Take your ruffle, and starting on the outside of the circle start hot gluing the ruffle around the circle. Coil the ruffle around so that each layer covers of the stitching of the previous layer. Keeping coiling and gluing until you reach the center. You can either just fold the corner under and be done, or add an embellishment to the center.

Next, I measured my head band and glued ribbon to the headband. There is probably a much "classier" way to do this, but like I said, it took me 10 minutes :-) Then I just hot glued the flower to the side of the headband. Finished!

La la la la... La la la la, it's Elmo's Song

My little guy LOVES Elmo! He is 16 months old, and he goes around singing La la la for Elmo's song. It is so cute. So I thought he should have an Elmo shirt :-). I usually hand draw all of my own appliques, but Elmo has to be just right. you know, no improvising. So I found a little shop on Etsy that sells applique patterns. Only $1.50 and she will email you a pdf and all you have to do is print it out and make your applique. SUPER simple! I LOVE how it turned out. I am a big fan of felt, so most of my appliques are felt. My little man is going to LOVE it. You can check out her shop here. She has a lot of really cute patterns to choose from, and it will save you a lot of time trying to hand draw it your self :-).

Unlike everyone else in the blogging world, I am NOT pregnant! My BIG news however is more crafting related. I had a meeting with a local children's boutique called BAMBAROOS today and I received my first wholesale order!! I am VERY excited!! I am going to be quite busy, and will be learning time management to meet my 2 week deadline, but in the end, I am still VERY excited! Ever since I launched my Etsy shop several months ago, I have been thinking of ways to expand my selling opportunities. God is good, and I know his favor has been with me through this endeavor. This is one of the aprons I made for a customer. I love the fabrics, so bright and cheery. One of my favorite things is the matching little hand towel that buttons on the side. I got to use my new embroidery machine, too :-) I am making a more "vintage" looking one as well. I will post pictures once it is finished.

Felt Puppet Theater

This was one of those project that you get started and you just can't go to sleep until it is finished. It turned out so cute, and I can't wait for my little guy to get up in the morning so we can have a puppet show! It was SO easy to make, all you need is some felt yardage which you can get at Hobby Lobby for about 5.99 a yard, some polyester satin for the curtain, and a couple tension rods and wahlah... Puppet Theater!!

Felt comes in so many colors so it would be easy to personalize it for your little one. I used my cricut to cut out the letters and then traced them on to felt and used heat bond to attach them to the curtain. Another thing that I LOVE is that you can take it down and fold it up for storage! I will post some pictures of us playing with it soon :-)

All of you with little boys HAVE to check out these two blogs, MADE and Made by Rae. They are doing crafts for BOYS ALL MONTH LONG!!! Crazy exciting, I know!! This is one that was featured a couple days ago that I just can't wait to make for my little guy! They are snakes made from old neckties. If your hubby, like mine has only worn a tie a total of 3 times in his life, make a run to Goodwill and pick up a few old ties to get started. Check out the tutorial here. So simple and so cute!! I will post some pictures of mine once I make my Goodwill run :-)

Ok, so most of you in the crafty blog world know Ashley from lilblueboo. If you don't, you are TOTALLY missing out. Seriously, one of the most talented ladies ever! So, I finally tried her sienna dress pattern.... LOVE IT!! It is one of the BEST and easiest to follow pattens you will find! And, the end result... PRECIOUS! Now only if I had a little girl to put it on. At least I know a couple that will look totally cool rockin' this Beatles dress! Seriously, you have to try this pattern, you will not be disappointed!

YAY!! Finally able to get some Christmas crafting done!! So much fun!! I just love how my wreath turned out! Dollar Store ornaments and a coat hanger. It did take quite a bit more bulbs than I anticipated, which caused me to have to beg the hubby to run me by the dollar tree after church on Sunday. He is not a fan. But, wreath complete and I am happy! If you would like to make one, check out the tutorial here. Although, I did find that using zip ties to secure the coat hanger into a circle works really well instead of trying to bend it back together :-) And, I was able to make Liam some cute little Christmas shirts too! I listed them in my etsy shop if you are looking for a cute little something for Santa pictures ;-) .

Felt Turkey Applique

Sorry for the hiatus. I have been super busy this past month. I have actually had the opportunity to get to work with the costume department for Whitestone Motion Pictures for their upcoming movie "Heartless: The story of the Tinman". I got to make some of the costumes as well as work on set helping with wardrobe. It was a ton of fun, and I can't wait to get to show everyone some of the pictures of the beautiful costumes :-) So, now that I am free again, I am able to get around to blogging and working on some more "mindless" crafting, which is nice.

Here is the Turkey shirt I made for my son to wear on Thanksgiving. I drew the turkey and then made an applique from felt. I think he turned out pretty cute :-)

Getting ready for the big ONE!!

My baby's 1st Birthday is just a few days away. I can hardly believe it!! I have made a few things for his party, and am still working on a few more. There is never enough naps in the day to get it all done. I got the idea for this crown from Jill. She made a similar one for her little one for his b-day. Check out her blog for a tutorial :-) His hat does not match the rest of the decor because I just used the supplies I had on hand. I figured for the 10 seconds that he actually keeps it on his head it is not really going to matter.

I appliqued a long sleeve t-shirt with a 1 on it for him to wear to the party on Sunday. The fabric I used is All Stars by Riley Blake. I just love this fabric! So CUTE!

Birthday banner. I used this AWESOME tutorial which actually includes a printable pattern!! I LOVE how it turned out! I am also working on a quilted table runner for the table. I ran out of thread when I was about 90% finished... SO FRUSTRATING!!! I guess I will be making a Hobby Lobby run tomorrow :-)

SUPER YUMMY PUMPKIN COOKIES

They may not be the prettiest cookies you have ever seen, but I must warn you, DO NOT make these cookies if you are on a diet, alone in the house, or have little or no self control. YOU WILL EAT THEM ALL! SOOO YUMMY!! So, I figured I should share the recipe so maybe I won't be the only one gaining 10 lbs. on just pumpkin cookies alone :-).

1 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 cup pumpkin

1 egg

2 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. salt

* cream shortening, sugar, and pumpkin

add egg and mix well

Add sifted dry ingredients

Drop from spoon onto cookie sheet

BAKE @ 375 DEGREES 10-12 MINUTES

FROSTING

1 Tbsp. Vanilla

1 lb. powdered sugar

1 stick butter

8oz. cream cheese

*beat together until smooth*

ENJOY!!!

Birthday Gift

This is the rest of the gift that I made for my friend's little girl for her 2nd birthday. I actually had more fabric left than I thought, so I was able to make a little skirt to go with the applique shirt. SO cute! And, of corse a little hair bloom too :-)! Making little girl stuff is so much fun!

Crayon Roll

One of my friend's little girls is having a birthday on Sunday, so I thought this would be a perfect little gift. I got the AWESOME tutorial here. Which was actually amended to fit "large" crayons for younger little ones by Serena at one of my favorite crafty blogs here. Don't you love when someone does all the hard work for you and all you have to do is follow the simple directions??!!! I sure love it!

I am also making a cute appliqued initial t-shirt and a matching hair bow out of the same fabric, too. I will post some pictures of the whole gift when it is all finished :o). Super simple and I just love how it turned out!

Ok, so I guess I have been in the dark, or under a rock, or something of the like. I can NOT believe that I am just now finding out about this AWESOME community!!! If you are a knitter or crocheter you MUST, must, must, must check it out. I mean THOUSANDS of patterns, mostly free!! Tons of groups and communities to join, and a place to see lots of other peoples beautiful yarn creations!! This is the gift I made for the grandparents for Grandparent's Day. They LOVED them. I think I may have to make one for me too! The total cost of the project was about $4.00 a piece. Not too shabby if I do say so my self!

Ruffle Butt Onsie and Custom Bow Holder

Yay!! SO... my best friend did have a little girl!! SO... of course I had to make one of these adorable onsies to go with the little shoes!! You can find the tutorial here . They are so easy, and so freakin' cute, I couldn't make just one. I can't wait to see how adorable she looks in it!

My best friend's baby is due any day now, and we are waiting to find out if it is a boy or a girl... but, if it is a girl she sure will look cute in these little shoes :-)!! I better whip up a boyish pair too, just incase :-)

Quilt squares, burp cloths, and a NEW foot :-)

One of my latest little crafting projects have been these cute little burp cloths that I made from this tutorial. They are supper easy and turn out really cute :-) I actually used a pack of flannel receiving blankets that I got as a baby gift when my son was born that were un-opened for the fabric.

I just LOVE the soft fuzzy edges

And, these are the quilt squares I have been working on. I can't wait to put this quilt together!! I am still trying to figure out exactly how I want to lay it out...

It is the Moda Arcadia fabric. I really like the patterns and colors. I used the "disappearing 9" method to make the squares. I love how easy it is to get a pretty neat looking block.

OH!! I can't forget this!! My new darning foot!! Now I can try my hand at machine stippling!! I am SO excited!!

All You Need Is Love... and a Beatles quilt :-)

This is what I have been working on lately. I had to go on a little hiatus because my whole family was attacked with a horrible stomach bug...yuck... but thankfully we are all feeling better and I was able to finish this Beatles quit for my son. I actually found this fabric at Wal-Mart on sale for $2.00 a yard. I mixed it in with a few remnants and a flat sheet, and Ta-Da!! Cool new quilt :-)

I actually decided to quilt it on my machine instead of tying it like I usually do. I am so glad that I did!! It really turned out nice.

HOW TO... Birth Announcement Block

Materials Needed:

4 inch wooden block ( I got mine at Michael's)
Acrylic Paints
Paint brushes of various sizes
Paint pen or Sharpies
Sand paper
Modge Podge
**Baby Info.** Name, Height, Weight, DOB, Time of birth

Select your colors before you get started :-)

Make sure you have several sizes of brushes

Make sure your block is pre-sanded

Apply a base coat of white paint... you may need several coats depending on the paint you are using.

Next you will paint about an 1 1/2 inch border around the edge of each side of the block. Leaving the top and bottom of the block blank.

Make sure you paint one of the sides yellow for the ruler side of the block

Top is blank (for now)

I freehanded all of my lettering, but you could also use stencils if you are not comfortable painting freehanded. * The black border is done with the paint pen*

*Date*

Again, I used the paint pen to draw the ruler border around the block.

*Length*

You can see here how I painted the design first, then went back in with the paint pen and outlined it and added the details.

*Weight*

Here I used a fine point Sharpie to write the weight because it needs to be pretty small.

*Time*

For the clock I traced the bottom of a child's cup to make sure I had a good circle

On the top of the block I painted to name and a decorative border.

*Name*

When I was finished painting I took the sandpaper and distressed the edges of the block and I also added a antiquing glaze over the whole block just to add some character. Lastly I sealed the paint with several layers of Modge Podge.

** I also glued a square of Felt to the bottom of the block so that it won't scratch your furniture :-) !!

FIRST--- PEAL AWAY THE FORMULA LABEL

SECOND--- CHOOSE A PRETTY PAPER SELECTION TO BE GLUED TO YOUR CAN AND CUT TO PROPER SIZE USING EITHER YOUR SCISSORS OR PAPER CUTTER

THIRD--- DECORATE YOUR LID TO COVER THE PLASTIC. I CHOOSE TO USE PAPER AND SOME FLUFFY YARN AND HOT GLUED IT TO THE LID :-)

FOURTH--- HOT GLUE OR MODGE PODGE YOUR PAPER TO THE CAN

FIFTH--- DECORATE WITH ANY OTHER EMBELLISHMENTS (RIBBONS, LETTERS, FLOWERS, STICKERS, ETC.)

LASTLY--- ADMIRE YOU CUTE NEW STORAGE TIN ;-)

Pretty Pink Quilt

So, I finished the little baby quilt (thanks mom for your help)!! It is so cute... now just to find a sweet little one to give it to. Maybe my next baby will be a girl. Then I will be ahead of the game for once :o).

Yep, that is right, a half finished quilt top!! I started this probably 5 years ago and found it in one of my craft bins while looking for something else. It made me happy ;o)!! I now have a perfect little project to work on this afternoon while to boys are napping. I will let you know how it turns out.

Fabric Blocks and Teething Rings

I made these super easy fabric toys for my little boy using this tutorial from a wonderful blog called make it and love it. Such a great little place on the web!! The only difference in mine are that I made a 6 inch block instead of a 4 in. I think my next project I may try to combine the taggie toy and the fabric block into a taggie block for one of my friends who is expecting her first little one at the end of the month!! I will post some pictures if they turn out cute ;o)

Quick and Easy Weekend Projects!!

I guess the theme of the weekend was "dish cloths" I am on a limited budget, and have really been in the sewing mood, so while going through my towel drawer this weekend I discovered some cute little tea towels that could help me out with my current sewing obsession :o)! Cut them up, and Wah La! Cute new apron! I did not have a pattern or any thing I just made it up as I went. I think it turned out pretty cute considering my limited supplies. I did use the pleated pocket tutorial by Rae which you can find here.

And, with my current sewing kick I have seemed to be in need of a pin cushion. With a 8 month old rolling around on the floor having loose pins popping up everywhere was NOT a good thing. So, searching the crafting blogs I ran across this super cute and super EASY little project. I think it took me a total of 15 minutes to complete :o) And now I don't have to worry about my little boy becoming a moving pin cushion :o)

Oh, and one more little project that was also made out of a dish cloth... like I said... the "theme" of the weekend. I got the idea from the Moda Bakeshop, but again, like I said, limited funds. So, definitely not as cute, but quick, easy, and CHEAP!!
